During the development of society, quality of life keep improving recently, wealth and material needs become more important step by step. People pay effort to get achievements in those aspects, that also bring a phenomenon of comparisons and even awakened the greed in bottom of heart. Everyone has somethings they like or really want, it is undeniable that whenever people can get or enjoy these substances without any restriction, greed in human nature would be exposed. People who cannot control the greed well may go astray easily. Material things are important, but they are not necessary, people should not become greedy for those attractions from substances and benefits. Also, extravagant greed may result in failures in any aspects. Greed is one of the factors that can lead to sins, and it may influence both of behaviours and mental health of human beings, those negative impacts may also get people around involved, and finally lead to criminals and even more serious irreparable results. To be specific, as the novel “We Were Liars” by E.Lockhart, the narrator have mentioned that “We burned not a home, but a symbol.We burned a symbol to the ground.” The liars put a fire and burned the Clairmont which is the main things that they were trying to get, because they thought that only if they destroyed it, those adults would stop fighting for this. But the accident happened right at that night, three of the liars died in the fire. It was an end can not be redeem.(Lockhart 152) From this plot, it can be seen that the main reason that the laires did this is that they want to stop the fight between those adults, because behaviors of those adults influenced them a lot. As for According to the novel “We Were Liars” by E.Lockhart, “Granddad did nothing but fuel them ...Granddad was drunk on his own power and my mother wanted me to make a play for the money." This appeared in the third part of the novel, in memories of narrator, the aunts were drinking and fighting all the time, Harris was egging them on, and the only reason for them to fight is the inheritance. Their mother even tried to her kid involved in this property war, she wanted cady to make a play for the money.(Lockhart 154) From this part of novel, there are several symbols that money and inheritance can be treated as material things, and it can be seen that this family have been destroyed because of their longing for those material things. The mom and the aunts fighted with each other, and even did some things against moral, such as cheating and theft.The reason they acted like this is that they were too greedy, and they gave wealth and material things too much power, so that when facing those things they were easier to get angry and fight with each other.
