Romeo And Juliet. Even the name of the revered play can bring up emotion in the heart of the most stoic person. What that emotion may be can range from hate of the play, because of being forced to read it, to drawing inspiration from the star-crossed defiance of Romeo and Juliet. Regardless, the love between Romeo and Juliet is something that can be admired from generation to generation, from critic to ametuer. A pair of teens fall for each other and take the ultimate commitment. A pair of tragically lost souls find each other in a world against their doomed relationship. It’s a globally acknowledged piece of art that has been studied for a long time. But what makes Romeo and Juliet so dynamic? Romeo has it in his defiance of his family and Juliet has it in her gained mistrust of Nurse. One thing is evident throughout the play, love has the power to make you not care about what you once did.
To show how Romeo loses love for things he once cared about, let’s look at what he was saying about Rosaline in Act I, scene i, versus his immediate reaction to Juliet. Romeo states, “Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes; / Being vexed, a sea nourished with loving tears. / What is it else? A madness most discreet, / A choking gall, and a preserving sweet” (I, i, 182-185). This shows how much Romeo loved Rosaline, and how he was practically obsessed with her. Even though she had already rejected him, he was driving himself mad thinking about her, it’s pretty obvious that she is someone he wants to be with very badly. Contrasting this, when he sees Juliet upon her
