Writing is an essential part of the day-to-day interaction in the academic community, so each it’s member should excel in this skill and follow the essential writing conventions. By being a part of Writing 39 B class, I have studied many important rules of the academic writing, which will help me to succeed in my future career. I believe that my academic texts have considerably improved during this course. I became an active member of the academic community with good and competent writing skills. My skills in work with sources, MLA format and argument have greatly improved, which one can see from my Portfolio, RA essay and RIP project. For example, I used a quote from Peter Guber’s text, “The Inside Story”, that:” telling purposeful stories is certainly the most efficient means of persuasion in everyday life, the most effective way of translating ideas into action,” to prove my belief that Oates wrote her article “The Lost Sister: An Elegy” in order to persuade her audience to change their opinions on autism. I used this quote as an argument in my essay by saying that:” every persuasive story plays a great role in explaining the importance of it’s message” and that Oates’s story will make its readers “become more caring for the mentally challenged people’s families, because they would realize that the mental health is the product of neurology not bad mothering” (Talonova, 6). By using Guber’s quote, I have more successfully explained my audience what effect persuasive stories should have on reader and had improved my ethos by using credible source. Sources can play important role in creating the argument in the text, because they demonstrate the opinion of credible authorities and statistics, which prove the author’s opinions, making them more reliable and
