“The Lost World of Genesis One”, is a book about what Genesis One in the Bible is saying and how it should be interpreted in the modern world. The book was written by John H. Walton. Walton is a professor at Wheaton University with a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Cognate studies, a M.A. in Biblical Studies: Old Testament, and an A.B. in Economics/Accounting. Walton is a Christian professor who teaches with the intent to further his students understanding of the Bible. Before working at Wheaton, Walton taught for twenty years at Moody Bible Institute. Walton’s emphasis is in Ancient near East cultures and traditions, such as the Israelites and Hebrews. In this book, Walton makes strong points to emphasize the necessity to read the Bible as the people of the ancient near East would have. Walton includes Hebrew translations to help the reader understand how the Israelites would have interpreted the Bible. Walton makes a weaker argument in regards to evolution being taught in public schools. While his opinion may be valid, Walton includes very little in regards to it and just kind of adds it at the end. Walton’s view of public education has very little to do with the other propositions offered in the book. Walton’s proposals be related to many other scientific and biblical topics. Waltons’s theory of reading the Bible with the intended audience (the ancient Isrealites) in mind is valued in studying the entire Old Testament and can even be carried over into the reading of the New
