Romeo and Juliet Compare/Contrast Sometimes, people are just not meant to be together. Romeo and Juliet are two different types of lovers. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is about two teenagers who make quick decisions and it ends up coming back to haunt them. In the essay, Love’s Vocabulary, Diane Ackerman uses an analogy to describe a batik to support her ideas about love not being monotone or uniform. In the analogy, Ackerman explains how a batik can represent love by claiming, “Like a batik created from many emotional colors, it is fabric whose pattern and brightness may vary.” This demonstrates how the analogy supports the perspective of Ackerman. Ackerman uses an analogy since the analogy is more descriptive and is more supportive of the ideas she has. The figurative language compares the idea of love not being monotone or uniform to the batik.
We live in a society that has increasingly demoralizes love, depicting it as cruel, superficial and full of complications. Nowadays it is easy for people to claim that they are in love, even when their actions say otherwise, and it is just as easy to claim that they are not when they indeed are. Real love is difficult to find and keeping it alive is even harder, especially when one must overcome their own anxieties and uncertainties to embrace its presence. This is the main theme depicted in Russell Banks’ short story “Sarah Cole: A Type of Love Story,” as well as in Richard Bausch’s “The Fireman’s Wife.” These narratives, although similar in some ways, are completely different types of love stories.
The characters perceptions of the meaning of love differ vastly, leading them to lose sight of love’s meaning or purpose.
Love is different for each and every person. For most people it comes easy and happens early in life. “Their Eyes Were Watching God”, written by Zora Neale Hurston portrays that romantic love is the protagonists ultimate goal. The protagonist’s vision of true love us associated with innocence, openness, understanding and equality between Janie’s lovers. Marriage does not immediately lead to love, though it can be expressions of it.

Love is a universal human emotion explored in many ways through writing. In novels, romance is shown to be a common theme. It is used to show love in ways that readers can sympathize and relate to, but love can also be shown in different ways. There is more to love than romantic feelings for another person. For example, people show immense pride and love for their family, friends, culture, and even themselves.
While this achieves the desired effect with those who are thirsty for their own shallow, sexual satisfaction, this leaves nothing to the imagination of the audience and puts a limit on how deeply love can affect the individual. Finney has left more to be interpreted by the reader. She presents events and pictures in lieu of the physical sensations of touch and sex that in turn become associated with love and sex.
The term 'empire' has been largely disputed in the past two millennia; it has come to mean different things for different people. Indeed, historians agree on the ambiguity of the word, thus deliberately using the term in different contexts to have different meanings. Nevertheless, in order to grasp the concept of an 'empire' we must consider the context in which it were used and the way in which it evolved. Ronald G. Suny defines empire as a 'particular form of domination or control between two units set apart in a hierarchical, inequitable relationship1'. This conveys an empire in a negative light , suggesting that an empire encompasses authoritarianism and despotism, the polar opposite to democracy, the dominating principle of the modern

“Love is giving your whole self and never holding back.” Everyone will be in a relationship and believe that they love or is in love, someday. In Americanah I believe the characters show how easily it is to think you love your girlfriend/wife or boyfriend/husband, but in reality you only lust for them or desire something from them. This essay is about how I believe Americanah showed a negative view on love and relationships because Ifemelu always had difficult aspects in relationships and didn’t really show love. I believe Americanah is a cautionary tale about the difficulties in relationships and the confusing feeling of love.
As the story progresses, love is expressed in the novel. The author uses character perspectives to express the theme of love. Love is a common topic played in society. The many types of love include, love for an object or thing, family love, and the love for the
The short story “What We Talk about When We Talk about Love” by Raymond Carver is about four friends- Laura, Mel, Nick, and Terri, gathering on a table and having a conversation. As they start to drink, the subject abruptly comes to “love.” Then, the main topic of their conversation becomes to find the definition of love, in other word to define what exactly love means. However, at the end, they cannot find out the definition of love even though they talk on the subject for a day long. Raymond Carver in “What We Talk about When We Talk about Love” illustrates the difficulty of defining love by using symbols such as heart, gin, and the sunlight.

Love and relationship between man and woman has been the focal point of countless literary works, music pieces and other art objects since times immemorial. Depending on the personal experience and worldview of the author, the feeling of love has been interpreted in many individual ways. Consequently, to find two masterpieces which depict love similarly seems inconceivable. The texts under analysis – J.L. Borges’ “What can I hold you with?” and the song “Anything for Your Love” by E. Clapton – although written by two contemporary artists and elaborating the image of love, produce an absolutely different effect on the reader.
