One of the main causes of the Cuban Missile Crisis was the Cold War and the superpower tensions it created. The war divided the world into western and eastern alliances. (2) The eastern alliance was led by the Soviet Union and supported communism. On the other hand, the western alliance was led by the United States and favored capitalism.
