The Cold War was an intense period with massive global outcomes due to a fierce rivalry between the two superpowers of the world. This war was a clash between communism and capitalism between the US and USSR. Both had the urge for power, an urge for domination over territories, and resources across the globe. The war ultimately ended in an uneven world system and a series of proxy wars. However, in this war, the US and USSR did not ever directly fight each other. They used many different strategies to get at one another, like supporting communism and capitalism, fighting proxy wars in other countries, and supporting and engaging in countries outside of theirs. The quote shows, “The fighting stopped when North Korea, China and the United States reached an armistice in 1953. But South Korea did not agree to the armistice, and no formal peace treaty was ever signed” (Source A). This quote highlights the different allies that were created due to this war and tells us that South Korea didn’t agree to the armistice. This is connected to being a global conflict because it shows the wrath of 3 different countries coming together in peace to stop war. The armistice between North Korea, China, and the United States during the Korean War shows global involvement between other countries rather than just the two superpowers. Immigration during the Cuban Missile Crisis serves as another example of how the Cold War globally impacted the world. Therefore, the Cuban Missile Crisis illustrates how the conflicts between the US and USSR caused the people of Cuba to flee their country. Lastly, the Cold War influenced global conflict between military interventions of sending troops to fight and support in the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War captured the clash between communism and capitalism during the Cold War and showed how tension between the two superpowers influenced conflicts globally. “In 1961, President John F. Kennedy, convinced that Communist China was actively supporting North Vietnam, approved a US military campaign in Vietnam to help the nationalist government stave off the Communist rebellion” (Source C). This shows that the US decided to send troops to Vietnam because they believed communist China was helping North Vietnam. So they decided to help out South Vietnam to stop communism.
