In 1914, over 38 million people died because of World War One. Some of the things that caused this war were militarism, which is when a boy spends his whole life knowing that it is his destiny to fight in the war, nationalism, because people have a strong love towards their country and will do whatever they can to protect it and imperialism which is when someone from another colony is running your colony. Three of the main causes of World War One were militarism, nationalism and imperialism. During this time period, when a boy is young he is taught that his destiny is to fight in wars. If there is no war then how are these boys to do the one thing they have waited their whole lives to do? Because of militarism, the military in many colonies became stronger and gained much more control. In the nations economies and politics, the military took a high priority since it was filled with men who wanted nothing more than a victory for their colony. Lots of men that fight in the wars are nationalistic because if you don’t fight for your country there is the chance you will lose everything that your colony worked towards and have to mend to a whole new set of laws and ruler.
