Gatsby was a man of mystery. He created an illusion to chase the love that he had looked for all his life. Hiding behind crowds of people and beautiful scenery, Gatsby was a man of mystery. His life contained hidden secrets and struggles. He made it look grand and beautiful with his luxurious mansion with a beautiful view, the expensive clothes from around the world, and custom cars equipped with the newest technology. Men and women gathered together to have a grand time with friends and family and make every moment seem new and special. What the Great Gatsby has in common with the Jazz age is the ability to sway the eyes of every person that looks at it away from the truth and sadness that was hidden underneath. Just as Gatsby, the Jazz age swayed the eyes of the people that were in that era into thinking everything was okay. But in reality, the Jazz age had despair and many troubles that were mostly concealed from the people during that time. The Jazz age slowed during the great depression in the 1930’s, because many people lost their jobs, homes, cars, property, and other belongings due to not having enough money to keep them. Before then, while people were going to jazz parties and dancing, the economy was declining and people all around were already losing their jobs.
