The Man to Send Rain Clouds Essay (Rough Draft)
In the story “The Man to Send rain Clouds” written by Leslie Marmon Silko, expresses the differences between two different cultures and their way of doing certain things. The story demonstrates how each culture in this story handles situation having to do with life and death. It states the different religious views one has over the other. The rituals of the Catholic Church and the rituals of the Pueblos are very different, in this story both religions cross paths at one point.
In the beginning of this story the characters named, Leon and Ken find their grandfather named Teofilo also know as the old man in the story, dead by a tree. Leon and Ken then decided to perform some of their cultures rituals to the dead body. Leon took a piece of string and tied a small feather on his grandfather's white hair. Then Leon uses different color paints to put on his grandfather's body. Leon paints a streak of white along the high cheekbones and a strip of blue paint as well. By mentioning this shows another example of how others have their different views on how things should be taken care of due to the different religious beliefs one another have. At this part of the story, we start to see the different Cultures collide with one another. Leon and Ken take the granddaughter’s advice of asking the priest who is Catholic to sprinkle holy water over their grandfather. This was something Leon and Ken were trying to avoid the whole time because they knew that the priest was not going to be happy to hear that Teofilo’s barrel was not done the proper way. The priest would have wanted a proper catholic
