Although Qin Shi Huang-Di is sometimes seen as a fantastic leader and unifier, he was also paranoid, oppressive, and tyrannical. For example, he was constantly worried about people who opposed him and about keeping control of his country. When Confucian scholars talked behind his back or criticized him because his administration was built on Legalism, he decided to get rid of them and ordered the arrest and execution of over 400 scholars (Gracie). This dislike of opposition and debate has carried over to the communist party of China today, showing just how much of Qin’s legacy has lasted. Along with the arrest of the scholars, he also used other means to end intellectual opposition.
The Yuan dynasty also known as the Mongol dynasty, was considered a brief irrelevance in China’s long history. There are many arguments to say that the Yuan dynasty did in fact make its mark on China’s history. Whereas others argue that the Yuan dynasty was in fact, a irrelevance in China’s history that does not need to be as noted as other dynasties of greater importance. The Yuan dynasty came to pass after the Song dynasty was destroyed by the Mongols river battles and sieges against them. This was only the start of the Mongols reign and need of power.
Amadou Hampaté Bâ is extremely detailed throughout the book, The Fortunes of Wangrin, in explaining the colonial world in West African societies. He provides multiple examples in this work of fiction that precisely describe the factual aspects of African colonialism that we have discussed in class. I will point out a few of the examples that Bâ uses such as: limitations colonial governments set on Africans, the Métis relationships within colonies, and issues that arose, not only between Europeans and Africans, but within the native African communities as well. I will then point out certain details from the book that do not perfectly reflect the components of colonialism that we have studied in lecture.
Columbian Exchange is “the transfer of plants, animals, and diseases from the Old World to the New World and from the New World to the Old World” (Patterns, p.515. The Columbian Exchange brought with them diseases and livestock such as horse. The Columbian Exchange brought new populations of both the Europeans and Africans to the New World. The Columbian Exchange impacted the social and cultural aspect of both the New World and Old World.
The Ming and Qing dynasties were two of many dynasties in China. They were also in fact, the last two dynasties. The Ming dynasty ruled from 1368-1644, and the Qing empire ruled from 1644-1912. Both dynasties had long lasting eras of power because of strong framework from influential leaders. The Ming dynasty had Zhu Yuanzhang who was a successful war leader.
Emperor Kangxi was the fourth and longest reigning emperor of the Manchu Qing Dynasty during the late 17th century until the early 18th century. Historians consider him one of the greatest emperors in history because his policies ultimately led the Qing Dynasty in becoming one of the most successful and flourishing societies globally and historically. Emperor Kangxi believed the role of the emperor was to be benevolent and respectful to all of his subjects, and to create harmony within the nation, with the hope of ultimately restoring and expanding the Qing dynasty into a prosperous and economic empire. Kangxi had strict criteria for state official prospects. He believed it was very important to look into a person's moral and spiritual values

There where many factors that led China to political unification in contrast to India. One factor is, dynasties such as the Zhou Dynasty who kept the same political system as its predecessors, where India had changed many things and continued to change political and social systems. India was very fragmented in political unification because, India was and still is a land of diversity. Ancient India was also not as organized as Ancient China in ruling. When the Zhou kingdom had started to end and break apart into many powerful states a “relativity young state of Qin located in the original homeland of the Zhou, emerged as a key player in conflicts”(p.
The Mongols conquered much land to create a vast empire with a legacy that impacts society today. With their armies, the Mongols brought a new type of government to China. They allowed China to continue its bureaucratic ways, but had absolute control over everything. Although there are other cultures that have influenced China’s government, the Mongols had a great impact on China’s government. This is shown by the similar traits both governments of the time share, its military dependency, intimidation, and absolute power without any checks.
Ming China and Mughal India were two great empires in the period of the 1600s. Both had cultural and technological advancements. And both were very different,yet both declined due to their political vulnerability which left them completely open to invasions by other countries. Their Government and society was very different. In both empires women were treated inferior.
Manchus Identity in Conquest: Cultural Superiority In the final year of the Ming dynasty, their power dwindled, and the Manchus, an ethnic group from the northeastern provinces and descendants of the Tungus came to power (Making China Modern pg.49). In the conquest evidence of their superiority complex over the Chinese can be observed in their promotion of military power, and segregation of the people of China. The Manchus, under the name of the Jurchen, had once been ruled by the Chinese, so when they saw the Ming start to lose power to political and economic corruption as well as their inability to squash uprisings in their state, the Manchus took the opportunity and overtook China with their military (Making China Modern pg.49).

Buddha’s Among Clouds Travel back in time to 1744 during the Qing dynasty, where a court artist named Ding Guanpeng created the painting Buddhas of the Three Generations. This painting was most likely a gift to the religious leaders of Tibet, followed by a series of other paintings. The emperor of the time was Emperor Qianlong and he supported Tibetan style Buddhism.
Zheng He’s voyages have been a constant source of controversy in the historical world because of the differing opinions on whether they should be celebrated or not. In July of 1405, Zheng He was given a task to lead a fleet of ships for exploration. This task was assigned to him by Emperor Yongle of China’s Ming Dynasty. Zheng He went on seven separate voyages over the next twenty eight years through the Indian and Pacific Oceans with the largest fleet of wooden ships in history. He navigated his massive fleet from Nanjing along the Chinese coast and through these oceans to explore new lands and bring prosperity to China.
The traditional Chinese cultures have a development process for thousand years, now we are creating another kind of traditional culture especially under the wave of globalization. Although the form of expressing or performing the culture experienced some changes but the basic idea and belief behind rarely changed. To promote Chinese culture we would refer to the essence of Chinese wisdom so the following is actual practicing of different dimensions of Chinese traditions which show the beauty of China. The family concept is the essence of Chinese culture.
