Everywhere Everyday The world filled with many types of situations. Although, most of these situations relate in one way or another to romanticism. Romanticism is shown in art, literature, and music. Literature is one of the most easiest ways to see the romanticism movement. Situations in both The Five People You Meet in Heaven and “The Masque of the Red Death” showed the cycle of nature, distrust of civilization, and the ability to be both good and evil however, they were far apart in the way that they were viewed. Both Edgar Allen Poe in The Masque of the Red Death and Mitch Albom in The Five People You Meet in Heaven show the cycle of nature in their stories, but it is displayed in different ways. Albom uses it to show the difference between Eddie’s father’s character towards him and Mickey. Poe uses it when the prince attempts to save all his friends but in turn ends up being the reason for their death. Unfortunately, the way the good and evil are displayed are very unalike. Eddie’s father had always been mean to him which gave Eddie the impression that his father was a bag man. Eddie was eventually told the story of how his father saved Mickey’s life. The author says, “ He had chased after Mickey to hurt him, perhaps even to kill him. But in the end, he couldn’t. He knew who Mickey was. He knew his shortcomings. He knew he drank. He knew his judgement faulted” (Albom 137). The prince was aware of the illness that was spreading and attempted to save his friends. By being good and doing this he ended up killing all of them while trying to stop an unknown man. The author states, “When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light hearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys” (Poe 1).
