Universal themes are apparent across time, culture, and place which are all evident in stories. In the movie, The Maze Runner by James Dashner, it exposes dystopian science fiction society. In this movie, there were gender roles, heroic scenarios, odd elements, and likeable characters. In the Maze Runner, many gender roles took place. One of the strong males in the movie was Minho. Minho was the keeper of the runners. Thomas was another strong male in this movie. Thomas led the group out of the maze. In the Maze Runner, Teresa was the only significant girl. She was the first girl to arrive in the elevator. Teresa recognizes Thomas but Thomas does not recognize her. Thomas was the first to kill a griever. He was also the first one to survive a night in the maze. He took control and was really motivated to find out what the maze was really about and he was successful. When Thomas led the group to WCKD, a Gally showed up with a gun. He was going to shoot Thomas until another weapon was thrown at him, and he missed Thomas, and shot Chuck. At the end of the movie, they are saved. They enter a helicopter, which is supposed to take them home, or at least they think that. In the Maze Runner, there were many odd elements. James Dashner put many elements to keep the reader interested and thinking. Every night the maze changed patterns. By changing the maze, the runners had to figure it out everyday. Another weird element was that no one before them had survived the maze. This makes you think about what happened to the other people that did not survive. Another odd element is that the code to the maze is eight numbers long. This makes it hard to guess the
