He struggles with the guilt throughout the story feeling as if he has disappointed everyone even though know one knew. Soto uses figurative language such as personification, allusion, metaphors, and similes to entertain the reader. His main intention is entertain but I can argue that he wrote the story to inform as well.
In “Sonny’s Blues,” James Baldwin wrote a different type coming of age story. At the end of the story the narrator finally develops a new understanding for his brother, and forgives him. The story’s narrator is a black algebra teacher, whose name is never revealed, who is living in Harlem, a New York City neighborhood. In the beginning of the story the narrator reads about his brother, Sonny, being busted with heroin in the newspaper.

Autism in psychology is a mental condition characterized by great difficulty in communicating with others and in using language and abstract concepts (Fredericks, 2008). The book “There’s a boy in here” the author is Judy Barron and Sean Barron. It recounts a strange point by a mother and her son, passing the painful years the son underwent through the painful years and the son suffered from autism and his remarkable convalesce. Ron and Judy were a young couple that gave birth to a son who had very different emotional needs. Rob and Judy Barron’s first born child was autistic.
In “The Boys Are Not All Right” by Michael Ian Black, the author uses different powers of persuasion to convince the audience to succumb to his opinion that men today don’t know how to properly express their feelings because of cultural norms that expressing your feelings is associated with weakness and femininity. He starts the article by drawing on the fact that almost all mass shootings have been committed by men. He says that men tend to lash out in anger because they don’t know how to properly express their feelings. He attempts to persuade his reader to start a conversation on how to make it more acceptable in society for men to express their emotions in a way that doesn’t potentially hurt others.
Imagine blowing up a balloon, with every exhale of breath the balloon gets bigger. Similar to a balloon, with every year that passes grades inflate. In “Grade Inflation Gone Wild” by Stuart Rojstaczer, he discusses how the grading system has changed over the years. Rojstaczer’s overall purpose is to increase awareness of grade inflation and persuade his audience to take action. He argues that “changes in grading have had a profound influence on college life and learning” (2).
The AVID program has had a positive impact in my academics, and in my life by helping me focus, enrich, and solidify my goals. I can say with full confidence that AVID has become an integral part of my High School year that equipped me with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in college. As an immigrant who came to the United States five years ago and English being my third language, the AVID program challenged me to think critically and strive to learn more. Personality wise, there are major changes that I observed once I joined the program.
I completely agree with this. I believe that you should treat people how they treat you. So always treat people with kindness unless they do you wrong. All in all, I would say the short story was okay. I would not give this advice to any little girl or anyone matter of fact.
In this story, “Looking for Work”, the author creates a Hispanic, young boy as the main character that wants to work and make money. He had a vision of wealth that he wanted to achieve in order to imitate the families he saw on tv. The boy explored the neighborhood, looking for jobs he could do for neighbors. From learning from the families on tv, he hoped that by improving his appearance, eating and dressing nicer, the white people might like him more.
