Family. “A social unit consisting of one or more adults together with the children they care for”. To me, it’s more than that. Family is where life begins and where love never ends. I sustain on the love of family. They may drive me crazy, they may drive me to dismay, but they drive me. Blood makes us related, but what genuinely binds us together, is the inexpressible love that you have for one another, that truly gives the family a meaning.

Love. “A strong feeling of affection.” Sure, that definition makes sense. I love my parents. But how much? This strong feeling of affection varies on differing magnitudes. For instance, the one dreadful night, when the phone rang and broke the tranquility of the household, yet again. To be frank, I saw it coming, we all did. However we did not anticipate the flux of emotions that would come along with it. Grandma had another cardiac arrest. What do we do next? Take her to the hospital. Why? Because we want to save her, because we want her alive, because we love her. Then I ask myself, but why did I feel what I felt that night? That lump in my throat, the fear that looped around my head until there was nothing else that i could think of? Sure, I loved my grandmother, but that much?

Despair. “The complete loss or absence of hope”. When do you feel despair? When you’re about to lose someone or something that has a special place in your heart. Speaking of hearts, my grandmother didn’t have a very strong one. Literally. Over two
