He was seen as the chaotic maker, madcap and terrorist. The rebellion even leads a military conflict, as his leading of the rebellion produced death and disturbed public’s order. No matter what Louis riel had done and what he is seen as a hero or a traitor. He is absolutely the most complex, the most dispute, the most pathos but an important person in the Canadian
Riel did not want the Metis to lose their rights. Louis Riel was the leader in the 2 rebellions. He was the leader in the rebellion because he wanted to make sure that the Metis could keep their lands. Going against the Canadian government and sacrificing his own life for the Metis proves that Louis Riel is a hero, a visionary and a leader who will be remembered for his
The controller of the Métis was well respected among their ranks and among the Cree and French he was a sign of hope. The herald to the Métis was a large threat to the people of eastern Canada and was becoming a large nuisance to them. Louis Riel brought daylight to the night in the Métis communities but gave no mercy to the edge of the blade pressed on the Canadians throats. The leader, Louis Riel, was a threat to the English Protestants and those
In writing A Voyage Long and Strange, Tony Horwitz’s goal is clear, to educate others on early America and debunk ignorant myths. Horwitz’s reason for wanting to achieve this goal is because of his own ignorance that he sees while at Plymouth Rock. “Expensively educated at a private school and university- a history major, no less!-I’d matriculated to middle age with a third grader’s grasp of early America.” Horwitz is disappointed in his own lack of knowledge of his home country, especially with his background history and decides not only to research America’s true beginnings, but to also follow the path of those who originally yearned to discover America.
Louis Riel became fed up with the Canadian government. He organized a group of people as the leader with the Métis and Natives in order to rebel against the government. He lead the people in the North-West to believe that the government is mistreating them. Riel decision to rebel was solely made by himself. Riel also had the choice of negotiating peacefully; however, he went forth thinking rebelling was the only choice.
Louis Riel wanted these changes, and he protested in the most civilized way, without spewing blood. He created a provisional government of the Red River Valley, The Métis National Committee. He halted (not kill or hurt) land surveyors in the area, and created the “Métis List of Rights” (one of the first civilian rights copy) which included many of the same rights as the rest of Canada, but was seen as radical document. The document also ends up being one of the reasons the province of Manitoba was created. Riel speaking out led to the creation of province, which technically speaking, Riel could be considered a founding father.
Louis Riel: Hero or Traitor? Louis Riel was born in Saint-Boniface in the Red River Settlement on October 22nd in 1844. He was the leader of the Aboriginal tribe the Métis and led two popular governments of theirs. Louis was also the founder of what is known as Manitoba today. In his early life he was proving himself to be quite smart, by the age of thirteen he was already sent off to college. Unfortunately just a couple mere months before his last exams of his college career his father had passed away.
The First Decision Reef, the main character in the novel, The First Stone, by Don Aker, makes a bad decision and ultimately has to deal with the consequences. To begin, Reef latches his anger onto a stone and deliberately throws it over an overpass into oncoming traffic. The stone causes a major accident between not one, but several cars and severely injures a teenage girl. Fortunately for Reef, the Judge sentences him to live at North Hills Group Home, and to volunteer at a rehabilitation centre. This punishment changes Reef’s life for the better.
During the North West Rebellion in 1885, Riel wrote the Bill of Rights, which further improved the conditions of the Métis. This made Riel a defender and a supporter to the Metis rights and culture. Another thing that stands out was he tried his best to not have any injuries or deaths in his battles; however, the Canadian government kept ignoring and disregarding their demand. During the Battle at Duck Lake, Riel plan was to surround Crozier’s men and intimidate them and hope to take them hostage without a battle. He tried to use methods that were peaceful to achieve what they wanted, but the rebellion and fighting against Canada were inevitable.

As a result the Red River Rebellion ensued. A leader quickly arose to the forefront to help pursue the interest of the minority party and to hearken the attention of the privileged Angelo Canadian ran government. This leader was none other than Louis Riel. At "Almost twenty- four years of age, educated, clever, imbued with a strong sense of pride in himeslf and in his own people..." Riel was perfect to lead the Metis (Riel 9).
Riel can also be admired for his intellect, as he was literate and well educated. Very intelligent indeed, he was also an excellent public speaker and fluent in English, French and Métis. Riel was smart to set up a provisional government and draft the Métis Bill of Rights to ensure that the Métis retained their traditions and rights. His leadership virtue can be considered heroic as well. The Métis looked up to Riel, and turned to him for guidance.
“The Century of the Self” is filmed by Adam Curtis. Several years ago a new theory about human nature was established by Sigmund Freud. This documentary is about how those in power have used Freud 's theories to try and control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy. The main characters are Freud himself and his nephew Edward Bernays, who was the first to use psychological techniques in advertising. This theory changed our perception of the mind and its workings.
In today’s world, it is still not the same to be born as a man or as a women. Starting from the mother’s pregnancy already, the environment kids live in and society’s expectations differ according to their gender, and persist during their whole life. Indeed, indicators show that inequities between men and women begin during the first steps of one’s life and augment throughout life, becoming daunting at the elderly stage of life. Parents chose a name and prepare the family environment, setting distinctions, enhancing, stimulating and orienting girls to domestic and motherhood tasks and boys to physical and vocational tasks requiring more strength and involving more risks. Thereby begins the gender disparity cycle, a prejudicial social construction
