Can you imagine what it would be like to be blind, deaf, and mute? That is exactly what Helen, from The Miracle Worker had to go through every single day of her life. She had tantrums nearly everyday. Then, Annie came into her life, and taught her sign language, self-control, and more. There were two different things created after this real story. A novel, and a movie. But which one was better?

Well, I personally think that the Novel did a better job of connecting to Helen’s life. First off, there was a time when Helen, Annie, and all the others were eating at breakfast. Helen was having a tantrum and was stuffing food into her with with her hands, not using the silverware at all, so the others left the room so Annie could help her. She tried to reach over and spell a sign into her hand, but Helen yanked her hand away.

Also, the movie had a similar thing happen. But instead of this, a bit more chaotic. In the movie, Annie is doing the …show more content…

You can see this at pg. 58 when she is talking to Kate. “She ate from her own plate. She ate with her own spoon. Herself. And she folded her own napkin.”

Secondly, I think that the novel was more descriptive than the movie. You can see this because it will use detailed words and have really long sentences that really give you an idea of what was going on in the scene. For example, at pg 53 you can really see this when it says “Helen clutches at James's chair for anchorage, but it comes with her, and halfway back she abandons it to the floor.” Or, you can also see how descriptive the book is at page 54, where it says “After a glower of indecision, she holds out her plate for more.”

In the movie, it isn’t as descriptive because even though you can see it happening, it isn’t as specific, and you may not know what’s going on as well as in the
