“The Monkey's Paw” is a tale with a strong message that can be looked at in many different ways. The novel “The Monkey's Paw” and its short film counterpart have many similarities and differences. The novel and the film “The Monkey's Paw” both have some of the same characters, dialogue, and same characterization but other aspects of both the film and the story are different such as plot.
The Monkey's Paw has some of the same Dialogue. While talking about the curse of the monkey's paw Morris states “Better let it burn”. This implies that he has had some major consequences with the wishes he has wished for. The same thing is stated in its video counterpart. Similarly when Mr White states “I should hardly think that he’ll come tonight”. This is also said in the movie. The old man is talking about the Sargent not coming for his visit

The video and the story have some big differences in plot. While Herbert and Mr. White is discussing what to wish for he states,“Wish to be a king, father, to begin with; then mother can’t complain all the time.” While in the short film Herbert suggested for his father to wish to be an emperor. The plot also differs when the family is talking about money. Herbert states “Well, wish for two hundred pounds, then; that’ll just do it.” This differs from the movie because Herbert says 200 instead of 300 pounds.
The characterization in The Monkey's Paw are similar. Mr. White is a very curious and direct character. He is so curious about the paws' powers it leads to his son's demise. He is curious because he asked the Sargent a lot of questions.“And what is so special about it?” The man is the same way in the film. Sargent is very knowledgeable. He knows the powers of the paw and how they were casted open the paw. Major tells the family how the paw was cursed and why it happened. The author states. “It had a spell put on it by an old fakir.” This showed he knows a lot about the paw and its
