Theme, theme, theme! What is a theme? A theme is a written message or a taught lesson about a story or person. The book “Marigolds” by Eugenia Collier, is about an elderly lady, Miss Lottie and some children. They lived in a dry, unjoyful world.
For example, in the story it shows Mrs. White’s desperation for the monkey’s paw when Jacobs includes “ ‘The paw!’ she cried wildly. ‘The monkey’s paw!’ ” This quote in the passage allows the reader to feel the same desperation and excitement that Mrs. White
The very first way the story shows the theme is through character. For example, Doodle's brother renamed him because of his disabilities. “Renaming my brother was perhaps the kindest thing I ever did for him because nobody expects much from someone called Doodle.” (Hurst 464)

Therefore these two texts create suspense because, it makes the readers think.

They serve as the author’s message or perspective to the audience, frequently focusing on numerous aspects of human life. It adds depth and complexity to a work, guiding the audience in interpreting and understanding the meaning and importance of the story. Offering a structure for examining characters, events in the story, and symbolism allows the audience to engage with the content. Furthermore, it can provoke emotions by tapping into our shared experiences, bringing out empathy in ourselves.
One strong theme is faith. Faith is seen throughout the stories and it is seen in many different ways. This narrative displays the spiritual world where animals can communicate with humans and portray their traits. The theme or themes in a story are the underlying idea of the story. Without a theme in a story the story wouldn 't really have a purpose or clear idea. Some people confuse the two terms plot and theme.
Theme is the message about life or human nature that is “the focus” in the story that the writer tells ( Glossary of Literary Terms 3). A theme in this story would be “Love and Blindness”. This falls under the theme category because it is saying love itself changes the way you are as a person but it also has its blindness. The “blindness” is not so much of not being able to see them physically but how they truly are as a person. A person can be very depressing, arrogant, or even abusive but the person in love will see past it hence the term blind.
