The usage of time, weather, and biblical elements all combine to create a mood of heavy paranoia that leads to uneasiness in chapter five of Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein. For instance, Victor Frankenstein was filled with anxiety and agony after infusing life into the creature during a “...dreary night of November...” (34). The night itself symbolizes a dark, lonely world without a celestial being, especially after Victor places himself in the role of some kind of god. This night depicts the guilt and paranoia that burdens Victor for equating himself to the Creator and giving life to such a creature that taunts and inflicts agony upon him.
