Omar Cherif an actor from the twentieth century was quoted as saying, “Insecurity can be so self-defeating, that it often leads to a non-life.” In the tragedy Macbeth by Shakespeare, he starts as a well-liked honorable Thane. In a meeting with three witches, the idea of being king was instilled in him. Macbeth became extremely preoccupied with himself and failed to consider other individuals because of his continuous need to bring this premonition to position. As a result, he ceased to care about people, particularly the ones who loved him the most. He ultimately became alone due to his absence of emotion, which contributed to his failure. “From this moment/ The very firstlings of my heart shall be/ The firstlings of my hand” (4.1 67-68). From that moment forward, Macbeth Acts on the prophecy that the witches predicted without regard for the destruction he causes to get there. This has not only turned his allies against him, but it also makes the people he governs disobey his authority. Through this disobedience, a rebellion is sparked that eventually ends in Macbeth's downfall. This irresponsibility that manifested in Macbeth created a commotion in the story and had an adverse effect on both Macbeth and Scotland as a whole. His fellow citizens no longer look upon him with respect. Another quote that displays Macbeth's recklessness is, “Something wicked this way comes'' (4.1. 45). This not only demonstrates how the witches now view Macbeth as wicked and no longer an honorable Thane as they did in the past. In order to determine whether he will be deposed as monarch, Macbeth chooses to seek the counsel/knowledge of the witches. In addition to being illogical, Macbeth consults witches, which through this play it is illustrated that witches enjoy torturing their victims. On another account of his recklessness, “If you shall cleave to my consent, when ‘tis/ It shall make honor for you” (2.1. 34-35). But despite his constant fears, Macbeth nevertheless decided to bring it upon himself. Macbeth was too worried his masculinity would be belittled if he did not kill king Duncan and rise to power. One of Macbeth's greatest flaws was his own insecurity. In act one, Lady Macbeth is challenging Macbeth's masculinity, “When you durst do it, then you were a man;/And to be more than what you were, you would/ Be so much more the man”(1.7. 56-58).
