Motif is the repetition of an idea or image that occurs in a work of literature. Because of the motif, shows the main reason for the story. In the story “What, of this Goldfish, would you wish?” the main character, Yoni, has a mission to shoot a documentary for himself, asking neighbors a question, “If you found a talking goldfish that granted you three wishes, what would you wish for?”. Yoni then finds himself with a man named Sergi; Sergi was found out to have PTSD from the knocking, from the KGB in his childhood, that Yoni gave to his door asking for the question. Once Segrie answered, he greeted Yoni with harsh words, saying “get out of here”, or “scram”. But what Yoni didn’t understand was that Sergie just wanted to be alone and unbothered. Sergei had killed Yoni. Why? Because Yoni had gone too close to the goldfish Sergie was so protective about. Once Sergie realizes that he had killed Yoni, the goldfish has a say in the situation. The goldfish is magic, putting in its sarcastic two cents every couple of seconds just to get Sergie to use his last wish that the goldfish can grant for him. He then uses it to go back to the moment when Yoni knocks at Sergi'sSergies door. In the story, they mention the motif “wish” throughout the story, wish being made as a way to make everyone happy. Yoni, having his first wish to be making the documentary about the question he was asking random people, thinks that he could “..maybe he’d cash out, package it with a slogan and sell it to a bank or cellular phone company.” Wants to make something out of the documentary whether it being something small, something. Then we have Sergie, his wish is not wanting to wish his last wish, that the magic goldfish has for him to offer, on anything else but
