This quote shows how the experiment proves the academic achievement of the children. “The analysis of simple effects showed that the scores of the experimental group increased significantly during the three years of the study but those of the control group did not.” This quote is explaining the test scores scores in the experimental group, which is the children with musical training, of the experiment and is saying that the group with the piano lessons scores were higher than the control group’s scores, which is the children without the musical training. This shows improved brain functions, because they do better in school and the brain sends healthy messages to their body, which causes good self esteem for these children.

This source talks about a study done by Samuel Mehr, a Harvard Graduate, that shows that teaching kids music does not make them smarter. This is a contradiction to the “Mozart Effect” which is a claim that people performed better on certain tests after listening to music. People were relating the Mozart Effect to infants, which was later proven wrong. Mehr started his experiment by “testing the effects of music education that happens everyday”. The results showed no effect or improvements in the kids who were taught music. This quote shows how Mehr was trying to contradict the proven fact of music improving the brain, “There’s no scientific research linking music and intelligence in infants.” This quote is stating that there is no way to prove that music training during childhood leads to higher intelligence later on in life. This fact is important because it shows a contradiction to my main argument. It shows that the Mozart Effect is a false claim. This information does NOT prove my claim because my claim was that music training does improve your brain function, and this article shuts down that idea completely. Just doing short term of playing music will not show improvements towards the brain from the music affecting the brain. It takes a longer period of time to show improvements in the music that is being …show more content…

Well, Music relaxes you when you are going through a stressful thing, such as going through surgery or maybe even school. Music can control the brain in weird ways, music can relieve stress or it can affect the moods of a person. This source talks about how music is able to control your brain to the point to where you are stressed out before something or have anxiety and then when listening to music, it calms you and your brain. This quote is from Elizabeth Landau talking about the study of the way music controls the brain, “In one study reviewed, researchers studied patients who were about to undergo surgery. Participants were randomly assigned to either listen to music or take anti-anxiety drugs. Scientists tracked patient's ratings of their own anxiety, as well as the levels of the stress hormone cortisol.” Patients partook in a study where before they began surgery the participants either listened to music or took an anxiety pill. “The patients who listened to music had less anxiety and lower cortisol than people who took drugs. Levitin cautioned that this is only one study, and more research needs to be done to confirm the results, but it points toward a powerful medicinal use for music.” This quote is talking about the results of the experiment, the participants that listened to music were more calm than the people that took the anxiety pill. This claim proves that with musical lessons, you can have a life with little stress in it,
