Similarities and Differences of ‘The Landlady’ and ‘The Mustache’ These two short stories are ever so different. As the story The Landlady focuses on a horror ambience, and a very mysterious open-ended finish to the story. As for The Mustache this story was more about a heartfelt tale about a young boy trying to age prematurely. However, despite these differences there are also some similarities. One similarity in between the two stories is the age of the two protagonists. They are both seventeen years old. This could be a similarity because individuals of the same age tend to think the same. Especially with two teenagers, everything people say affects them and they pay very close attention to it. Additionally the different points of view could also capture different opinions and thoughts about the character. For example, in The Mustache this story is being told in first person. Which gave us first hand ideas of the character and exactly what he was thinking in ‘real time’. As opposed to the story The Landlady; being told in third person not showing us the exact thoughts of Billy but also giving us more insight on what the actual disposition of the scenario might be to another mind. Correspondingly, another reason why these stories are different is because the main ideas are different. The all around main idea of The Landlady is that you can never judge a book by its cover. No matter how sweet a person is or how nice a possible sanctuary might look, you can never know if something could be safe.
