FACT/ANALYSIS: Many events in the 1900’s provided job opportunities for American’s three of them were WWI, The New Deal, and WWII. Although WWI and WWII were terrible times for our nation, they created many employment opportunities for African American’s as well as women. Franklin D Roosevelts New Deal also created many new jobs for American’s and brought back some economic prosperity to our country. OPINION/REFLECTION: WWI was a time of great job opportunity for women and African Americans. The very first thing Woodrow Wilson did was see to our soldier's operational needs, including ships, guns, ammunition, uniforms, and food. In his first hundred days in office, he passed numerous “significant pieces of legislation that were geared towards creating jobs, shoring up industry and agriculture, and providing relief to individuals through both refinancing options and direct handouts” (U.S. History 785). Not only did he provide jobs and earning opportunities he gave the country hope. After the lack of action by the previous administration American’s were suffering and had lost all confidence in the government. The four-month period between his election and taking office was so painful that the US Constitution was amended to a two-month period. Roosevelt exuded confidence, was proactive and calmed the countries fear with his fireside chats. Millions of previously unemployed American’s went to work as a result of the Federal Emergency Relief and Wagner Peyser Acts. Millions more found employment with the CWA building bridges, roads, and airports. Still more were employed through the CCC planting trees, and battling forest fires.
