What is a hero to you? Is it someone like Superman, Batman, Spiderman or maybe even Wonder Woman? Does your hero save lives or fight crimes? A hero could be anyone, just a regular person. It does not have to just be someone who fights crimes on a daily basis or put bad people away. Yes, those are heroes and I for one greatly appreciate all of the people who risk their lives everyday fighting for our country or just for our well-being and safety. But a hero does not have to be all of that. “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself,” (Cambell, Moyers and Flowers). A hero could be anyone who stands out to you. He was a cunning, smart, loyal, and compassionate man. Odysseus was a ruler of the island Ithaca. He has been in war for ten years where he save the Greeks from the Trojans, and it had also took him another ten years to get home. He is considered a great hero because he overcomes all these extremely dangerous situations. He did what he had to do to save his men, when they were turned into pigs. . Odysseus even defeated the cyclops. But he knew him and his men could not do it a long, so he came up with a plan. “So you ask me the name I’m known by cyclops? I will tell you but you must give me a guest- gift as you promised, nobody- that is my name- nobody- so my mother and father call me, all of my friends,” (Odysseus). He tricked the cyclops into believing He even tricked the cyclops into thinking his name was nobody.
