The Outsiders is a book by S.E. Hinton, in the book there's a clear economic divide between rich and poor shown the most prominently by the divide in the socs, and the greasers. The problems shown in the book like education, living situations, and their future hopes and aspirations can be shown and directed to Brazil as their economic divide is very similar to what is shown in the book between the socs and greasers. Brazilians face lots of hardship with the economic divide which divides society and people making it harder to get somewhere in life from relationships to jobs because of these divides. In the outsiders the greasers tend to live on the poorer side of the city which is the east side, they don't have the best living situations they live in a small house and ponyboy and sodapop seem to share a bedroom in the book “Lying beside Soda, staring at the wall.” (hinton) but in the book it seems that the socs had pretty nice homes compared to what the greasers were living in. The living situation in Brazil tends to be tough because the lower class, which is what the greasers would be, are usually living in these houses that are called “favelas” or in some really bad apartments and some run down houses. It’s really interesting thinking of the people point of view because from the city like Sao Paulo, you can clearly see the difference between the poor areas and richer areas from the city all you can see is these run down houses on a slanted hill, but thinking from the poorer side perspective i see where the greasers would be getting all their anger because the poor side all they can see are these pretty houses and fancy apartments. The difference in people's living situation is so drastic in Brazil that the cost difference to get from an old apartment to a nice city house is
