Imagine having to deal with the stress of being beat up, but still hoping and praying for it to end. This is what happens in The Outsiders, and also a theme that comes up in the poem “Poverty and Wealth.” As of now in the book, The Outsiders is a great book and makes good connections to real life, so I will explain its connections to the poem. First, I will give a quick summary of the poem and book. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy and his brothers have to deal with poverty, and getting beat up by Socs on a basis. This is seen in the book many times, they’ve had to deal with this treatment so much, Johnny became suicidal. This has all happened because of how poor the Greasers are, and how wealthy the Socs are. In the poem “Poverty and Wealth,” it is about a rich man’s son who his dad wants him to be a great ruler over the land and sea. On the other side of it, there was a labourer who was very poor. First, there are the Socs. They are the spoiled rich kids who get whatever they want, and take there anger out on the greasers. In the book, you see them pull in with fancy cars and such to get ready to jump a greaser. This was seen especially when they jumped Pony and Johnny, causing Johnny to use a weapon for self defense. This is also similar to the knight, who is spoiled and thinks if he gets everything he wants, life will be perfect. As shown from both of them, wealth was the reason they became spoiled. Second off, there are Greasers. These are the kids that are poor. They normally get jumped, but some taught themselves how to fight back or they bring weapons. This is like the labourer and how since he hoped and didn’t ask for everything, he gained what he needed so he lived a great life. This happens because such as the Greasers and the labourer, they accept what they have and they don’t complain. This makes them believe god will repay them, in which he
