Identity is common in The Outsiders and Devin Hope.Randy, Ponyboy, and Devin hope all feel as though they have to be tough around friends. Randy struggles with beings and Soc. Ponyboy struggles with being a Greaser. Devin Hope struggles with being around friends and reading. That shows how they share a theme of identity. The Outsiders and Devin Hope both deal with the theme of identity. The Outsiders deal with identity because Ponyboy likes to do other stuff but struggles with being a Greaser. Ponyboy likes to read and watch sunsets but other Greasers don't. Randy feels like an Outsider and everyone wants him to be tough and do things but he doesn't want to be a part of the Socs vs. Greasers. He feels as though if he doesn't show up he is
