The movie “The Patriot” is a cinematic presentation depicting the life of Benjamin Martin, a widowed French and Indian War veteran and his family. Taking place during the American Revolution, Benjamin Martin, played by Mel Gibson, struggles to protect his family throughout the time of war. His eldest song, Gabriel, has a strong desire to fight in the Revolutionary War and against his father’s wishes he soon joins. However, trouble sets in when the war between the American colonies and the British takes a turn for the worse, eventually leading to Benjamin Martin joining the war to save his family and inspire the Colonists to push forward in the war. With the content of HIST 2223, one is able to receive more in-depth knowledge of these events, as seen in the movie, and determine how accurate the movie is and potentially better understand the timeline of history as a whole. Correspondingly, both provide such conceptualization and comprehension through the easily read details from the text of the class and the images seen in the movie that connect the facts with visualizations.
