In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Miss Caroline is treated poorly because some of her students think she is picking on a kid that comes from a poor family. It is the first day of first grade for Scout and Miss Caroline is her teacher. Miss Caroline's students do not realize that she is not trying to pick on a student named Walter when she tries to be nice by paying for his lunch but does not know that he would have to pay the money back. “You’re shamin’ him, Miss Caroline. Walter hasn’t got a quarter at home to bring you”.(Lee 28)

Furthermore, it is an Indigenous ideology that the extended family must take responsibility for a child if they are orphaned or if their biological parents are unable to do so. Hester sees Pearl as a breathing version of her scarlet letter. Although she is a reminder of Hester’s sin, Pearl is also a blessing. She represents the spirit of the sin that Hester committed. Her existence strengthens her mother to help her continue each day without giving up. Her name was specifically chosen to represent how she is her others only treasure.

If your civil rights were taken away, would you fight to protect your rights or watch and let your civil rights drift away? Marcus, a main character in the book Little Brother, was near the bay bridge in San Francisco when it was blown up by terrorists. He was blamed for it by the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). Due to the bombing, the city was put under heavy watch by the DHS and everyone was treated as a potential terrorist, especially Marcus. Throughout the book, Marcus fought against the DHS for the rights to privacy of himself and the civilians of San Francisco.
Family builds a person to be the way they are today, without it every person would be ultimately a different person because family passes their beliefs and other things on from generation to generation. In the book How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, the reader follows a Dominican family with four girls that is forced to move to the U.S. Throughout being in the U.S. the four girls struggle with many things because of the difference in culture. The book talks about the struggles and transformations the girls go through as they adapt to their new lives in the United States. Along the way, each of the girls experiences something that is different from their culture that was passed on to them from generation to generation.
When you think of family you might think of adults and their children, or kids who lost their parents but are still related to each other. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton tells otherwise. It shows that even if you are not related, you can still be family; you can still have love and affection for each other. In the book, there is a contradiction between the gang’s biological family and their “family”. There is connection shown between the greasers from the Socs in the blue Mustang to Johnny dying in the hospital not wanting to see his mother.
This play was written in 1977 by Willy Russel and is set in the inner- city area of Liverpool in northern England. It concerns 4 teachers planning a fun day out for a group of progress kids to visit Conway castle in wales. The children are very rude and destructive and come from very poor homes. The progress teacher Mrs. Kay is the one who planned this whole trip. She is in her early forties and cares for these children very deeply.
The people he killed were going to kill them or at the least hurt them to get the pearl, so he constructed the plan to basically make it out alive. It says on page 80 “... I must get to him first, then I will be all right... There is no choice, it is the only way. They will find us in the morning.” As he made his plan he refused to let Juana change his mind even if it did mean life or death.
Kino had dark hair and his eyes were bright. Juana had dark hair and eyes. She always wore a blue head shawl over her nose, breasts, and around her back. Kino was good man, but once he found the pearl he let it get to his head and he became a different person. Juana was humble and only wanted the best.
Juana believed that the pearl had evil spirit to it and that it had bad luck. Once all of the villagers knew that Kino found the pearl they became obsessed with trying to get it. Juana feared that the pearl will ruin their son and her family, but Kino pushes her fear aside not caring since he was going to be rich. Throughout the story Kino’s greed became too much for Juana after her family had been attacked and Kino beaten so badly that he was knocked unconscious. Juana tried to take the problem into her own hands and get rid of the pearl, but Kino was so set on being rich he wouldn’t let her and hit Juana until she was knocked unconscious.

If one were to ask three random people on the street, it is likely they will receive three completely different answers to defining a family. The textbook definition of family according to the etymology dictionary is: “Origin in early 15c. “servants of a household” from Latin familia “family servants, domestics collectively, the servants in a household.” The traditional dictionary describes family in a more narrow fashion stating, “a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not.”
