In 1996, my parents got engaged in Lagos, Nigeria. They decided if they wanted to start raising a family they hoped to do it in a country that would offer opportunities for their kids to be successful in life. Thus, they started the permanent residence immigration process to both Canada and Australia. A year later, my parents got married. 6 months after they got married, they were approved both for Canadian and Australian permanent residence immigration status. My parents had to decide which country they would emigrate to.
