Elliot Rodger is the perpetrator of the Santa Barbra shooting that occurred on May 23, 2014. He uploaded a video outlining his reasonings for his violent actions. In this video he explained how he plans to get retribution for the years he suffered without a girlfriend. He highlighted how he was a nice guy and he did not know why women would not go out with him and how he planned to slaughter the women who rejected and refused to have sex with him all these years and how he planned to murder the men who have had sex with women. He justified his actions as pay back for being a part of the out group when it came to having access to women’s bodies. His sexism and sexist beliefs are influential in maintaining his masculine identity. He views women as objects used for sex and as tools to use and manipulate to successfully navigate his masculine identity. Maintaining such a belief system that view women so negatively explains why he had such a hard time finding women that he could sexually dominate and why he was able to easily justify his violent actions. He saw his actions as a form of retribution for a subordinated class of people who did not successfully act in the ways he wanted. Elliot Rodger’s “hatred of women” (Anderson 2015:416), his maintenance of misogyny is what fueled his actions against his victims. Since Eliot Rodgers had sexist attitudes about women when he was unable to gain access to women’s bodies he did not see that as a failure on his part, but a failure on the part of the women and because of this he felt that the women should pay with their
