On the other hand, the lieutenant is a good portrayal of the other two types: the behavioral and verbal. They are somehow related to each other. The first type means that anger is expressed through behaviors and actions. The person becomes more aggressive, cruel, and arrogant while dealing with other people if they trigger his anger. The result is usually physical attacks against them. The second one is expressed through the use of some words, expressions, and other linguistic patterns. To exemplify this, both the lieutenant's words and actions throughout the novel reflect his feeling of anger. It leads him to other negative feelings, making him full of hatred and cruelty. He does not even matter to take hostages from different villages and kill some innocent people in order to achieve his aim and find this priest. Yet, by the progress of the events, it appears that his anger and hatred have blinded him from seeing the truth or being able to recognize the priest despite encountering him many times. Another reflection of anger and violence exists in the destruction of almost all the Mexican cities which the priest visits in his journey of escapism. This is also found in the very beginning of the novel in the novelist's description of the capital city, Tabasco, where the Lieutenant is going back home.
