The public itself reading of its own accord. You firemen provide a circus now and then… hardly necessary to keep things in line” (Bradbury). The government caused this society to become a dystopia gradually. First, they eradicated all books with an religious disputes. Then, they destroyed any books that disagreed with ethics and morals.
The government intervenes in all situations and highly regulates any information that is obtainable. The destruction of books is the main way in which the government controls access to information in Fahrenheit 451. In our world today the act of censorship is becoming increasingly common. There are endless topics of controversy and with that comes controversial books. In Texas, the governor is proposing a bill to ban all public school libraries from having any books that include material with same-sex couples and transgender characters.
Secondly the use of visual information is pushed upon the people so that they think that the books are giving off false information. The use of books have been outlawed because “It might potentially incite people to think or to question the overall thought of happiness and freedom” (Sisario). By burning the evidence of books and all of the information in the books the government has initiated a spot where people can’t think or really do anything other than TV. This example shows why they started to burn the books.
The government decides to burn the books so people in the country would start to become less educated. As a result, the people put their trust in the authority blindly as they do not know any
The government banned books so that people would not be
Books have been around for literally generations, and if people in this world are burning them because the technology is all they need then thats a big problem. When technology fails, and there is no where else to get information people usually go to books or just another resource that is not part of a circuit board. However, when people burn books they are not just throwing away knowledge. The people are throwing away the past, they are all throwing away shakespeare and famous authors such as
The culture is ignorant and close minded. A lot of people don’t read in today’s society, however few could imagine a world without books. In Fahrenheit 451 books are completely absent. It wasn’t the government that took the books. It was the people who left them behind.
Oh. Well I’m not here for conspiracy theories, but that does seem to match up with the government of Fahrenheit 451. Keep the public people ignorant and in denial and they won’t have the power they could potentially have. TV is something they can control and monitor, which they do in our world, but the same can’t be said for books.
Furthermore, the government of this world is a strict and controlling group, for they made reading books "against the law"
For as long as writers have written books, people have been wanting to ban them. Before the printing press, only a few handwritten copies of each book existed. If leaders deemed a book ‘inappropriate’ or ‘undesirable’, they burned the few copies that existed, ensuring people would no longer read the knowledge
This lie discouraged citizens to be creative and ask questions by form of banning books. This propaganda turned out to be very successful resulting in the majority of the population believing this lie. Few recognize this brainwash and strive to keep the last threads of books known to the universe alive and protected. The lies the government tells negatively affects society because it forces them to stop being creative and stop reading books which results in a society oblivious to the events happening around
Ray Bradbury once wrote; “Books are to remind us what asses and fools we are”. In Montag’s society, the government controls knowledge and memory. This control allows Montag’s government to do just about anything it wants. But in the end, this will negatively affect the government and its society. While there may be limited positives for some people in restricting knowledge and memory, Bradbury’s main warning was that doing this could have devastating results for everyone.
In the World State Mond states “ Our civilization has chosen machinery and medicine and happiness. That’s why I have to keep these books locked up in the safe.” (234). To maintain the citizens happy the Controller decides to ban history before Ford. In our society we are been restricted knowledge in schools.
The biggest rule that the government enforces is the burning of books. On the surface this may seem like a simple rule, but essentially, this is the government controlling the knowledge that is filtered through the citizens. “Each man the image of every other; then they are all happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against” (Bradbury
Books should not be banned from schools and libraries, everyone should be allowed to be informed on what’s happening in the world and learn about diversity, despite a book having unpopular views. Opponents claim that all books should be monitored and banned if they give off unpopular opinion or can possibly hurt the public. 1.) One
