Earlier in the movie when someone else is framed for being him and is put on trial, he accepts fault which is accepting to go back to prison. Still Val Jean evades this situation and continues his life of suffering as he cares for Cosette. After Val Jean lets Javert go, he carries Marius who was injured fighting, through sewers because he knows this is the man Cosette loves. Val Jean is willing accept suffering even though as he races through the sewers, Javert is still after him. When Val Jean finally emerges from the underground pipes, Javert is waiting to arrest him, and Val Jean pleads not for his own life, but for the life of Marius.
What is power? How are the people in your life powerful? How are you yourself powerful? Being powerful is having the ability to control one’s (yourself) or others lives. To Kill a Mockingbird is about a rape trial between an African American man and a white woman, of course Mayella won the trial.
But first what is Power? When researching Power words such as authority, control, direct, command and influence all appear. These words all support the following statement “Power is the ability to influence and control the behaviour of others.” The problem with power is that it often leads to those in power abusing it. As Lord Acton famously quoted “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
It was the Nurture of society that made Armand Aubigny ashamed of Desiree and their baby. It was that feeling of superiority over that race, taught to him by society, that made him hate her, the baby, and made him feel as though God was punishing him. It made him feel obliged to have slaves, which he punished while in a bad mood. If it had been Nature that overpowered, surely the compassionate genes Armand’s father had would have passed down to him and the hateful, self serving genes of Pap Finn would have been inherited by Huck. In this case, it is
Jean Valjean goes through a lot in this movie. In the beginning, Jean is released on parole after serving a sentence for stealing bread and for trying to escape prison. He travels everywhere to find a job and a home, but he is unable to find anything for himself. Finally, the bishop offers Jean a bed and some food, so Jean spends the night there. He repays the bishop by deciding to steal all his silverware and escape.
Power, a major influence throughout all of history. Wars, love, and countries all began with the same concept: power. Sometimes, power is used responsibly; other time the platform of prestige authority is used in a manipulative way. Power can stem from an individual, but it can also be rooted in memories that haunt people forever. In The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini writes an impactful novel, showing the brutality Afghanistan goes through as power is corrupted in the country.
This quote by Victor Hugo reveals Jean Valjean once again saving the life of another person, who he barely even knows yet he continues to. Previously we’ve seen that Jean Valjean despises Marius ,since he’s responsible for taking Cosette away from him, still he’s ready
As you can read in the quote, Jean Valjean just thought it was an unknown person and he also was not aware of Cosette talking with Marius during this time. Jean Valjean probably thought that someone saw them as a target for something or that Javert knew where he was, and if Javert would catch him, he would not be able to provide safety for Cosette anymore. Another event, happening during this time, was Jean Valjean receiving a note with the words REMOVE on it. ‘’He was about to turn around, when a folded paper fell upon his knees, as if a hand had dropped it from above his head. He took the paper, unfolded it, and read on it this word, written in large letters with a pencil: REMOVE.’’
but he had stayed hidden in the dark from his captors. He had used his prior knowledge as a prison escapee to help them escape the gasps of their fate. When they were escaping Jean Valjean was carrying Cosette, yet she appeared to be sleeping. Cosette appeared to be calmer being chased by Jevert than when she was with the Thenardiers. As established, Cosette is much calmer with Jean Valjean than the Thenardiers even though she only has known Jean Vlajean for a few days but has known the Thenardiers for her whole life.
The Thenardiers, corrupt innkeepers “taking care” of Fantine’s daughter, Cosette, demand large amounts of money for looking after Cosette, even thought they have been treating her very poorly. Desperately needing of money, Fantine turns to prostitution to attain the sum. Javert begins to suspect the mayor and Valjean are the same person when he sees Valjean’s strength by lifting a heavy carriage, saving a man under it.
The cliche phrase “with great power comes great responsibility” is one that can be applied to many different situations, but what really is power? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as the “possession of control, authority, or influence over others.” The concept of power is one that is familiar around the world, whether in a positive or negative connotation. In To Kill a Mockingbird, power is seen in someway with every turn of a page. To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the mid 1930s during the Great Depression in a town called Maycomb in Alabama.
Throughout Cosette’s life, Valjean raised her to be a respectful, caring, and always grateful for what she has. Valjean first had Cosette enrolled in a convent, then later on in her life, Cosette wanted to move away and appreciate
He eventually becomes the town’s mayor. B.OBJECTIVES .In fleeing his parole, Valjean infuriates Inspector Javert, who vows never to rest until he has captured Valjean and administered “justice.” From this point on, Javert’s pursuit of Valjean dominates much of the story; however, numerous other story lines develop as well, the most important involving Valjean’s adoption of Cosette (Amanda Seyfried).
In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck power is revealed in multiple ways. Power is shown as an ultimate decider in who is respected and left out. The many different characters show their power and how they gain it, in various ways which is demonstrated throughout the novel. Power can sometimes be visible to the reader and sometimes can be hidden. Ultimately, power can decipher who you are, how much respect you receive, and where you stand among others financially, morally or socially.
Imagine spending your whole life doing one thing that you believed was good, then one day find out that you were completely wrong and you have not been doing good. This is what Javert found out through his journey of chasing Jean Valjean over the years. Would this turn your world upside down? Would it make you feel like your whole life was a lie? It did to Javert in the book Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, and is the reason why Jean Valjean is the reason Javert had no other choice than to take his own life.
