A lot of people fish. Fishing, to some peoplefishing is a lifestyle. People fish for game and for rofit but most importan fishing is a source of food. In Hawaii, Fishing is a big deal to the locals and also to the tourism industry. However the issue at hand is thhat overfishing is occuring in our oceans. The problrm that is happening is that fishing is a big part of Hawaiin culture, and Hawaiian people feel like they should not be restricted by laws and they feel that they should have te right to fish anywhere with no regards to the ecosystem around them. This causes a problem between the locals and the government. The government wants to limit fishing because they don’t want certain species of fish to go extinct. The amount of fish being caught on the daily has dropped sufficiently today. Ancient Hawaiians had these restrictions on species, gear, and catch limits. According to the article the Hawaiians Caught More By Fishing Less, “Native Hawaiians caught about 50 percent more fish than modern fleets catch today in both Hawaii and the Florida Keys, the two largest reef ecosystems in the United States”(main,2012). Ancient Hawaiians caught more fish than Hawaiians catch today. This shows that if you set standerds and regulations on fishing that there will be more to catch later on in the future. Therefore, the government should impose laws that prohibit Hawaiians from fishing in certain areas because, they have a chance of catching more
