Why is Abortion Such a Sensitive Issue? When the topic of abortion gets brought up many people are quick to through their opinions at one another. The reason why this subject catches my attention is because of the extremity that some protestor goes through to speak out against the other side, and how controversial the topic is. I find it interesting that some individuals can be so defensive while debating their opinion over another individual’s opinion.
While researching abortions I came upon various articles discussing the topic. Mainly there was an overabundance of unhelpful blog posts debating over whose opinion was more justifiable and accurate. However, I did find some webpages that had some interesting information. Using this information, I interviewed a pro-life supporter to understand her view dealing with abortions. In an article from the New York Times it stated “Those were the days when it was not unusual for half of the obstetric beds in a large public hospital to be occupied by women suffering the consequences of illegal abortion” (How It Was) speaking in terms of when abortion was still considered illegal. If there were no longer safe institutions that women could refer to, this would increase the death rate of women from unregulated abortions as it did in the 1930’s.
