First of all there is no need to be allow active euthanasia because passive euthanasia is allowed. Now some people argue active euthanasia should be allowed because of allowing passive euthanasia. Autonomy is self-decision. They argue all human being have right to self-decision. Therefore patient has right to die. There is no need to prevent patients’ autonomy, if they want to die. However this insist is totally false in Japan.
There are two reasons. First, the definition of self is vague. According to oxford dictionary autonomy means the right or condition of self-government. However what is really meaning self? Our decision is sometimes changed. For example in last night I decided to get up early and set a timer. But in this morning I didn’t want to get up early I wanted sleep more. This example is silly, however to replace to get up with to die. When a man wanted to die in last night, but in morning he regret this choice. This decision is ignore and desert the future ego.
Secondly the decision is made by not only the patient but also society effect and other people. According to Tetsuro Watsuji, famous philosopher, “We are not only by nature social beings, but we inevitably come into the world already in relationship: with our language and culture, traditions and expectations, parents, caregivers, and teachers. It is a myth of abstraction that we come into the world as isolated egos.” Therefore the autonomy of death is too complex, and we can’t decide and evaluate active
