As humans, we often fall into the trap of convincing ourselves that things will turn out better than they might. We fall victim to self-deception and often due to intellectual laziness. We don't want to think there’s a problem because then we’d have to do more thinking to come up with a solution. This would not change with the threat of an ASI and I can think of several reasons we may give for why an ASI would inherently care about humans. “It would care because we created it or hold partial responsibility for its existence.
