The Pros and Cons of Banning Books There are two sides to the book banning: those for it and those against it. These sources will show why books get banned. First, there is the author Macey France she makes her point of saying why books should be banned by showing the bad parts of banned books. The next author, Jenni White has a similar approach and even uses a quote from France. This next author, Emma Greguska writes her point about how we should not ban books, saying these books prepare the students for the future and teaches them how to deal with real-life problems in a safe space.
“Having the freedom to read and the freedom to choose is one of the best gifts my parents ever gave me,” Judy Blume. The issue is there are both pros and cons upon banning and challenging books. Some people may be all for it and believe their children should not be exposed to realism that comes from books ‘trying to protect them.’ What ever happened to the freedom of speech? Books are constantly challenged or even banned.
Book banning in public schools should cease in existence, for the reason that controlling what students should or should not read violates the first amendment right of freedom of speech, some students to feel left out or treated as burdens when they are not allowed to read a book for an assignment, leaving minority students misrepresented or not represented at all, and preconditions the mindsets of students to formulate a preconceived idea rather than students formulating their own opinions. To form their own opinions students need to be exposed to all avenues in a safe, controlled environment, such as schools, in order to truly find out who they are, and who or what they want to represent. If parents have an issue with the topics discussed
Some people say “Stand up for you right to read”(About Banned & Challenged Books 1). I think that is kind of dumb, because sure reading is great and lots of people love to read including me, but something should not be read. Maybe there should even be ratings for books like there are for movies shows and video games, to worn people what they are about to
One more reason I believe banning books are wrong is because, you get more choices. Librarians say that they want kids to have as many reading choices as possible, but by them banning books they can have as many options to pick what they interested in. However, if kids get interested in a series and it is banned in their school library because it is more “mature” that gives the limited options. Jaquan was in the library trying to choose a book he was interested in but he couldn 't because the book he was looking for was banned. Some people say that racial slurs are why they ban some books, but most kids are gonna learn about racial slurs in their social studies class anyway.
Books should not be banned from schools and libraries, everyone should be allowed to be informed on what’s happening in the world and learn about diversity, despite a book having unpopular views. Opponents claim that all books should be monitored and banned if they give off unpopular opinion or can possibly hurt the public. 1.) One
Censorship is another word for banning, the government/libraries/schools are keeping these books away from the public. Students should be able to read what they please, and they should not be stopped from doing
First, this text states, “Children should not be exposed to sex, violence, drug use, or other inappropriate topics” (Procon.org). To explain, parents are banning books from schools because they do not want their children to be exposed to these inappropriate topics. Moreover, banning these inappropriate topic books would be a great deal for parents and their children. Furthermore, the same text states that “Keeping books with an inappropriate content out of libraries protects kids, but does not stop people from
Grace Scott Mrs. Coleman 7th hour 3/31/23 Banning books in schools Opening a book is like entering a new world. So many people can agree that books educate them and give them a better understanding about themselves and the world. Books shouldn't be getting banned even if they have hard topics.
Every book has a massage but some books have explicit content that parents feel are too much for their kids at such a young age. Schools still have a problem with banning books, some school strongly believe that keeping books that are not appropriate for kids to read off the shelves is the safest option. Still other schools think that banning books is simply not right and should not be done. It is still a well talked about topic. So should banning books be praised or
Book bannings have been apart of the world's history since books have been invented. Book bans are a form of censorship from ideas that might influence violence, sexual relations at a young age, and more. In the United States, there are four books that are banned. These books include Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel, Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene, Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, and Arming America by Michael A. Bellesiles. The banning of books should not be allowed because it restricts what other can read, it restrains what readers can learn.
Lots of parents and businesses think that books should be banned, do you? I am for banning books because I feel that books should not talk about homosexuality, drugs, alcohol, smoking, nudity etc. Books should be banned due to bad language and bad content. I feel like bad words shouldn 't be allowed in books because kids learn things from books and if it has bad words and bad content in them unfortunately kids will learn inappropriate things. Books should be banned if they have PDA especially with two people of the same gender.
Just because some people disagree with some books, does not mean others should not be allowed to enjoy them. Books should not be banned because it closes doors for information that mature people should be able to read. Another reason books should not be banned is that it deprives people of learning experiences that they may encounter soon. Books should not be banned also because some of the books are excellent for history, or learning experiences. Books should not be able to be banned because it closes the door for great lessons and deprives people of learning about the world around them.
If a teen is going through puberty, and trying to find books on the topic, but the liberty deemed it ‘inappropriate’, so the teen has no information on how to take care of themselves, and because they said it’s inappropriate, they might feel guilty and gross about themselves. But if the library did have those books about puberty, the teen would know how to handle it and know that it’s normal. Books shouldn't be banned because of their content. If it makes people mad, or disgusted, that's fine, but don’t take it away from people who need to learn from that book. It’s a childish way of dealing with something, and is limiting everyone’s freedom.
In the short story, “A Worn Path,” Eudora Welty follows the journey of an old, frail woman named Phoenix Jackson on a long walk into Natchez, Mississippi where she has to get medicine for her grandson. The trip becomes especially difficult because of her age, and in mid-trip she forgets the reason for the struggle. At the end of the journey she remembered, retrieved the medicine, and decided to buy her grandson a Christmas present with the ten cents she had acquired during the day. Although, there is a deeper meaning that conveys simple life behind the journey, as well as the story, a simply beautiful story with many techniques and devices that employs an intricate and densely complex form. Even though it is not clear to anyone quite what it is, the story
