Today, all police cars have dashboard cameras but all they do is record what is going on in front of the police car. However, in the future dashboard cams may do even more such as identify suspects for police officers, detect guns or weapons and even have facial recognition. Coban Technology, a company out of Houston has been developing a new kind of webcam. One that uses artificial intelligence to help cops identify potential dangerous situations before they could. They also hope to not only limit this technology to the front of the car but to eventually provide a full 360 degree view with these cameras. They can cut down some of the dangers of being a police officer’s due to the officers knowing about potential weapons or suspects that could cause them harm. Along with other new technologies that are coming into their hands such as a new laser guided GPS tracking device which allows the tracking of a vehicle through a satellite. However, with all these new gadgets that police officer’s get these gadgets can come with some negatives. Facial recognition can delve into some dangerous territory in terms of privacy. Many people may fear that with police cars being able to recognize and identify people that they fear with all these new smart cameras that the government may be able to track the location of anyone with their permission. Along with many things becoming more technology based, the thought of cyber security may also come to mind. With these cameras being able to identify people they may potentially lead to things such as identity theft.
