Should death row or death sentencing be legal or illegal? Ever since 1976, 1,389 convicted murderers were sentenced to death. Out of 1,389 convicted to death, there was 15 females. Death row has been around for a very long time, Death row dates back all the way to the very early B.C days. Hanging has became the main common way all the way to the sixteenth century. In the sixteenth century under the British reign of King Henry VIII, as many as 72,000 people were convicted to the death penalty. With so many people being executed to death, they had to make more faster and new methods of execution. These new methods and executions styles are very harsh and brutal. They include boiling, burning at the stake, hanging, beheading, and drawing and quartering. These executions were convicted to people because of capital offenses, marrying a jew, not confessing to a crime, and for treason.
