Being played for longer than humans can recall, sports is widely accepted and spectated across the globe, but never has such a ‘sport’ seen so much controversy. Electronic sports or dubbed as e-sports for short, is all about gaming at a competitive level. It is almost a utopian industry for those passionate about competitive gaming. An industry revolving around the whole notion that in order to get paid well, participants must win, e-sports manages to take competitive gamers to make hefty sums of cash by taking part in various tournaments and leagues similar to other professional athletes. Whether you wish to continue playing professionally as a gamer, a team manager, or a different path in journalism, a caster, or even work in marketing or graphic design; the e-sports industry offers it. One of the greatest benefits of working in the industry is the opportunity to begin work at such a young age. For example, if you have the skills and talents necessary to become a professional player, you may participate in tournaments at a young age and earn over hundreds of thousands of dollars. Syed Sumail Hassan from Pakistan did exactly that, choosing to join e-sports team “Evil Geniuses” at the age of 16 and toured around the world with his older teammates, earning almost $1,200,000 from a single tournament. On the flipside, you may choose to work with an e-sports media outlet writing articles and taking interviews, and moving on to providing live coverage at official events. Perhaps a future in business interests you, joining a team’s organization and working as a team manager, PR officer, or marketing head. Through these – and many other – jobs within the e-sports industry you will have at your fingertips the beginning of networking with large corporations and organizations who are involved in the industry, allowing you to develop personal and possibly everlasting relationships. E-Sports is an industry built on passion, this gaming centric industry is run almost solely on people who love playing video games and the viewers who spectate them. A stand-out aspect of E-Sports is the traveling and global competing. As previously stated, the determination and passion of professional gamers is incredibly high; unknowing if they will have the chance at the money available for first place by qualifying. It is far from easy to earn huge sums of cash in the e-sports scene and takes lots of dedication and skill to do so. Players need to pay the bills and that is why playing creates a lot of drive to be the best and win. Overall E-Sports is undoubtedly a rapidly growing industry, and it only gets better with its various aspects and opportunities. Countless people overlook E-Sports simply because competitive video gaming along with the people involved are labeled as lazy, socially introverted, and unfit by society.
