There are an insane number of Americans that volunteer to be in our military every year. Why do you think there is so many that continue to volunteer for our military and choose to serve our country? What do you think is their reasoning or motivation behind their choice of entering the military? Do you think they have selfish or personal reasons for making the decision that they did? Or do you think that they made the choice they did because they honestly just want to service our country because they think it is the right thing to do? If you were to ask a military man or women why they entered the army, or why they chose to fight for our country when they didn’t have to, what do you honestly think their answer would be? I personally think that duty is another word for responsibility. I think it means that you are going to act for the greater god in spite of your own desires. No matter what you actually want to do or what you think is easier, you are still going to do what is right and what is for the greater good. Duty is a very big responsibility, and only people with no morals at all can turn away from one of their duties. Many people who volunteer for our military do it because they believe it is their duty to defend our country. They think it is their responsibility to fight for our freedom and risk their lives in the process. I think there is a very good possibility that Beowulf did the things that he did because he thought it was his duty to do so. Maybe he thought that it was his duty to defend the land of Danes from Grendel and Grendel’s mother. If this were the case, then that would explain why he ever became a thane in the first place.
