When one graduate’s college it is usually one of the happiest days of their lives, they finally get to quit their low paying job and get a job that is much higher paying and hopefully a job they enjoy. However most of the time these newly college grads do not get to go buy a new car, or a house, or whatever else their heart desires instead; they have to spend about the next 20 years paying off their student loans. But what if there was another way, so that these newly grads do not have to spend 20 years paying off loans? Well maybe there is because in January of 2015 President Barrack Obama proposed the idea of free community college. This sounds great does it not?
College Free for All In an editorial titled “Make College Free For All” written in The Washington Post Bernie Sanders attempts to persuade the middle class and his peers that free college will be beneficial. He argues that we live in a highly competitive economy and a higher education is needed to survive in the work area. With that being said, unfortunately with the rising costs he realizes that not everybody can afford a higher education. Overall, he wants to have a stronger economy and offering free higher education would be a step towards that goal. Sanders' argument is effective due to his credibility, the factual evidence he includes, and his stance on his topic.
Those who don't have the money to pay for the colleges even the most cheapest college should have the opportunity to go to a free college and feel successful in their future. It states in the article that “Talented students are forgoing college because of the costs, students who start college are unable to complete because they cannot afford to continue, and even students who finish degrees may not realize all of the expected returns because of sizable debt burdens.” This means that the talented who may even rise up to become something good and help our country in the future can’t even afford to pay for the cost. In another text it mentioned that “The success rate in college for the lowest-achieving but highest-income students is slightly better than the success rate for the highest-achieving, lowest-income students.” Which means those who might have good grades cant even join their college and people who can might not be as smart.
All around the United States, there are people who probably never got the chance to go to college, not because they didn’t want to or weren’t motivated enough, but instead they couldn’t afford to go. In his book, The World Is Flat, Thomas L. Friedman talks about globalization, which means that the world is being flattened. What this means is countries are now able to compete with each other. One solution that would help people in a flattening world is free community college for two years. A majority of people have given up on the idea of college simply because it’s too expensive.

Pros, Cons, and Alternatives, proponents of free college believe that it would benefit the entire nation, not just the individual students who take advantage of it. More of today's jobs are knowledge-based or require advanced technical skills. With that being said, better-educated workforce would help fill many of the skills gaps that prevent America's economy from growing faster. Also, if more people are able to attain employer-desired credentials, then more people can take the good-paying jobs that often go unfilled.
There are many controversial topics regarding community colleges. One of the more strongly debated topics includes whether or not community colleges should be tuition-free for state residents. That being said, there are many consequences to altering community colleges in a way that removes the revenue of student tuition fees. One of those consequences may end up impacting all of the citizens of the state that has free tuition. With all of the potential drawbacks that come with free community college, this concept should not be implemented in the real world.
