When one graduate’s college it is usually one of the happiest days of their lives, they finally get to quit their low paying job and get a job that is much higher paying and hopefully a job they enjoy. However most of the time these newly college grads do not get to go buy a new car, or a house, or whatever else their heart desires instead; they have to spend about the next 20 years paying off their student loans. But what if there was another way, so that these newly grads do not have to spend 20 years paying off loans? Well maybe there is because in January of 2015 President Barrack Obama proposed the idea of free community college. This sounds great does it not?
Community college has been a blessing for lower income students such as myself, but, the way it stands right now is the way it should remain. This topic has been a discussion question since as long as I can remember but wasn’t truly brought to the table until our previous president Barack Obama stated it in his State of the Union address as he proposed to make the first two years of community college ‘as free and universal in America as high school is today’. People argue that if community college becomes free, students won’t be as motivated to go. They assume that students will slack off and won’t care enough to even try. Having tuition free colleges can help give opportunities to those who would have otherwise have not been able to pursue a college education. Another reason they support the pro-stance is because free tuition can help reduce student debt. There are about 40 million Americans with student debt. Since the Vietnam war till today America has changed drastically due to specific groups. During the Vietnam war doves and hawks had an affect on America. In the 1980s and 1990s the U.S government changed because of liberals and conservatives. Now America has changed due to the terrorist groups attacking us and other countries. College financial aid should not be based only on income or merit. The way the Federal government gives out scholarship money is based solely on income which can be unfair to some students. Also using Standardized test as a way to award student’s scholarships and financial aid is fairly imbalanced. Financial aid is almost always given to someone who would not be likely to succeed.
Opponents of free college tuition claim that if students want to go to a university they can search for a scholarship. Maybe free education could give us more students in universities. But, it would be just like high school again. People who were bad and screw around in high school will be bad and they will do the same. They will negatively affect students who really want to study and work hard.

A college education is basically a need now a days because although not many jobs require a college degree good jobs demand them.
