This may be due to the fact that the college environment is not exactly conducive to learning. Many avid students soon find themselves with a large amount of freedom and plenty of opportunities such as parties to waste their time and money as well as the government's money instead of learning anything useful. Thirty-six percent of students demonstrated no significant improvement on Collegiate Learning Assessments after four years of college (Education Worth it?). These students had high hopes when they arrived as freshmen. It looks like, however, that a large portion of these students put themselves in debt in order to learn nothing.
The cost of college tuition has been rising at a steep rate, going from only $2,000 for a public school or $10,000 for a private school in the 1970s to $30,000 for a public school or $100,000 for a private school today. Frankly, it is very unfair to those who cannot afford to pay tuition and yet are not eligible for financial aid and certain scholarships. Payment for college tuition is a major issue in the United States, especially for the middle class. More often than not, middle class families have an income that is too high to qualify for financial aid at certain colleges. However, the salary that they earn is still too little to pay off the cost of attending on top of commute, food, course materials, and boarding if needed.
The total cost of an in-state university (including room, board, books, travel, and miscellaneous expenses) hit $24,061, up $651 or 2.8% from last year. This to most isn’t just pocket change, having this kind of money annually for 4 or more years isn’t easy, most students get grants, scholarships, or loans to pay for the extensive tuition. So is college really worth the student loans/debt, tuition cost, and possible monetary wages and payoff? Preliminarily, students apply for loans when they don’t have the money to pay for their books or other expenses that derive from college.
Though there are many individuals who believe that college is not for everyone, attending college and getting a higher education can open the gates to many tremendous life changing opportunities such as becoming healthier, begin able to secure jobs, and earning more financially.
Studying at university is an expensive investment. Tuition fees have a disincentive effect on the students who from the lower and middle-income families. As Bruenig states the statistice of the college students from the poor and rich families “ At age nineteen, only around 20 percent of children from the poorest 2 percent of families in the country attend college. For the richest 2 percent of families, the same number is around 90 percent. ” Also, most of those students want to achieve better lives so they attend the higher education.
Although there are many different problems with college affordability, I believe that there are multiple ways for college to be available for you, you just have to find the path that fits you. College is a necessity to further our education, but college is not for everyone.
From the time we start our careers as students in school, we are told that in order to gains success in life we must attend college. That after high school, college is no doubt the next step we should be taking. Yet, for most students that are not wealthy this goal is almost unattainable. If the majority of students can’t afford tuition, then why is the tuition rate so high? Its certainly not an accident.
College should be a national right for all students in the U.S. Students in the U.S are suffering greatly due to the high mountains of student debt they are receiving. In the United States, the student loan debt is 1.75 trillion dollars and the average graduate in 2019 owed 28,950 dollars in college loans. It is growing into an issue that can not be ignored due to these debts affecting several groups of students across the United States. College should be tuition free for students. Students who are college graduates have higher chances of succeeding and contributing the most to our society.
State-owned colleges should be free to attend because a person’s education should not cost anything. If state-owned colleges were free more people would be able to attend. When people go to college they should be stress-free. Not worrying about paying off loans and scholarships. College should not be a debt sentence for people who just want to further their education.
Everywhere around the world should give students the opportunity to go to college without having to pay for tuition. Only some people have the privilege of pursuing a college education. College tuition has risen an abundant amount over the past few years, and people have had more student debt now than ever before. We should change this and follow the path we want without having mountains of debt. Public college tuition should be free for all because it will lower the amount of student debt, and everyone will be able to get a college education.
College is one of the most important and life changing times in the life of an American. Leaving high school behind and venturing out to the adult world is an amazing experience that every individual should experience. However, young adults from every corner of the country leave college with crippling debt or do not go to their preferred college of choice. College education should be cheaper as it will help families and students financially and give them the satisfaction with having the opportunity to go to their first choice for college.

I am a senior in highschool, hoping to go to college. As I am looking for colleges I am realizing that college is not cheap at all, and I am not the only one that thinks that. Most of the money students don’t get to see where it goes, as it doesn’t benefit them, it usually goes to the athletics department in help paying for their trips, and new equipment. It doesn't go into better books or better classrooms unless, they make enough money over a certain period of time.

Perhaps, working through college will not always cover all of a student's education expenses including books, supplies, room and board. If free tuition is given, students will have further time to educate themselves. Moreover, college tuition and prices are at an all-time high. Each year, prices are rising higher and higher.
