Slavery has been illegal for hundreds of years all throughout the world. However, millions of people are still enslaved in the form of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, which results in forced labor and sexual slavery. Human trafficking is a global issue because it is highly illegal, and it dominates the labor industry in third world countries, as well as the production of commonly marketed items, but thankfully organizations like the Polar Project are attempting to stop this billion dollar industry. The Polaris Project is a non-profit organization who fight to end human trafficking throughout the world. They work by allowing victims to call or text their hotline and Polaris in turn will get the proper people involved to help the suffering end (“Polaris Project”). Polaris will provide the victim financial and emotional support throughout the battle of trying to win their freedom (“Polaris Project”). However, Polaris Project is not the only organization working to cease human trafficking. The United Nations has set up a trust fund therefore people can donate money to further investigate human trafficking (“UNODC”). This began in the late 1990’s and they have been working all around the world to provide legal aid, financial support as well as emotional if needed (“UNODC”).
