Internet memes. A world phenomenon that frankly has turned into a language of its own. What may be a “meme”, well it started out as a way to communicate certain messages in a humorous way but as it developed and its popularity, it has turned into its own thing. As you may or may not know but at the end of this news piece I will need to come to a conclusion whether internet memes are good or bad for the English language. Good: As the internet’s progression develops positively so does the amount of users. I have experienced this before and it is really pleasant to witness. I have seen and asked a lot of people (mainly foreigners) about where you had learnt that word from? Or how do you know that? A lot of people replied with memes. Nowadays he knows more complex words that I never knew so now he is educating me. I think his mind might grasp the educative side of the memes whereas most people just grasp the humorous side. The Internet meme community is a wide region even though it has been narrowed down to specific words, this means that it is only safe to say that you might end up in the difficult side of things, just make sure you are on the ‘nicer side’ as with good things comes with bad things as well. If you have the time, I recommend you observe these yourselves before giving your kids approval because it all comes down to the parent eventually. This goes to you teachers as well because they could educate your pupils whether it has to do with history or English or science because kids do remember things easily if there are examples given.
